This advertisement was up outside the Botanic Garden in Oxford. The name of my subject Physics comes from Greek. The original word meant "natural things" because we study things that are not human inventions like art or literature. It seems to have become focused on non-living things though. So it is not unreasonable that growing plants should have a word from the same origin.
