Plotting a magnetic field

 Take one plotting compass and put it near a magnet. Draw an arrow on the paper to show the direction that it points.

Repeat this at many points around the magnet.

Join up the arrows to form flux lines.

The lines come out of the North pole and go in to the South pole.
