The walk along the prom is lovely and has regular stations with distances marked out on the scale. They are 0.2 miles apart in the middle but 0.7 miles and over on the edges. Many measuring scales are like that. Good resolution in the middle whrre detail is needed and less on the edges where not. The fovea in the centre of the retina is an example.
